Alexander was born 356 B.C. He was born to Arny General and organizer, Philip of Macedon and Olympias, princess of Epirus. His father was rarely seen by Alexander for he was usually at war. Alexander resented his father for this and rebelled when his father hired a tutor for him.
As a young boy Alexander had many tutors who would try to teach him mathematics, science, poetry, and philosophy. Alexander was very restless while being taught, but when one of his tutors finally got through to him he decided he wanted to be a military warrior hero.
When his father died in 336 B.C., when Alexander was only nineteen, he was determined to become King of Macedonia. He soon became a strong military leader and the army then helped him murder all potential competition to the throne. Olympia also helped Alexander to the throne by killing King Philip's daughter.
When Alexander came into full power he conquered surrounding city-states to secure the Macedonia boarder. Alexander was a very forceful leader and he didn't like competition. This is why he tried conquering many different city-states and even countries. He conquered Egypt and made his own city there called, Alexandria.
Alexander the Great died in 323 B.C. at the age of thirty-two from malaria. |
